Craig Jones (Jiu Jitsu) Invitational, development of the portfolio page etc.

It’s currently 2:50AM on Saturday the 17th of August and while working on arguably important and interesting things myself I’ve been watching the Craig Jones Invitational, which is the first of its kind both because Craig has never actually run his own promotion before AND there’s a million dollars up for grabs for each of the divisions people can compete in. They’re also paying the athletes well to turn up which is a very new thing for Jiu Jitsu The closest thing the sport has had is that of ADCC, which pays the winner of their event $10K and doesn’t pay people to turn up at all.

So you’ve been spending months out of the year training with world class athletes to win and you get all the way to 2nd place (Craig) you get absolutely nothing for all of that effort. From what I can tell, professional Jiu Jitsu competitors all over the world have been asking for this to change for a long time and the response from those at the top has always been that it’s just not financially realistic. Craig even decided to do it on the same weekend as the ADCC event, have it stream free to lots of different platforms and he’s even got a super-match vs the absolute tank of a woman Gabi Garcia. Yeah you read that right… give it a chance!

I’ve been working on the portfolio page of this site and really tweaking everything to work with mostly Astro and very small amounts of Cloudflare and so far, so good. There’s still some hiccups of course which is something I anticipated being that I’ve been around the block once or twice when it comes to old methods of web development both front and back-end, but it’s still extremely annoying when everything works absolutely perfectly on the development version but when you try to push it to the live site there’s suddenly an error and you can’t quite work out what the problem is.

I’m still at my Mum’s helping out right now while she can’t fully move her knee, but I’m also going through some housing trouble because of predatory companies that take advantage of vulnerable people. Not sure how much detail I can go into there, but it means I don’t currently have a habitable home (their words and supposedly the words of the council too) but they still won’t hand me a notice despite that fact being not my fault.

I say that to say once I’m in a better position to do so, I’ll be back to streaming a LOT again, more episodes of the DAM PODCAST, playing games and casting them, creating design education, some reverse engineering crackmes and many many more things. In the meantime, you can still find me doing things like that but streams will be few and far between and I’ll keep using this like a glorified journal for as long as I can.

As you were!
