KOTD Massacre 6.

WARNING: POTENTIAL RESULT SPOILERS FOR DAY 1 BELOW

I’m a little late in posting this as the first day of the event has already happened. I only got to see some of it, but what I did see was incredible. A Ward vs The Saurus seems to have been a clear win from Ward without any clear fuckup from The Saurus which is cool to hear for Ward. The clips I’ve seen of Chef Trez vs Xcel have been amazing from both sides and most people seem to be saying Xcel got that, which is really impressive to me considering the shit I’ve seen from Chef Trez’s side might be the best I’ve ever seen from him.

I watched E Farrell vs Peppe and while Peppe had some really well written and rapped material I just feel like E Farrell comes off a lot more comfortable and always has a good mix of material with funny shit and punchlines scattered around. Peppe had moments where I felt like he expected way more of a reaction than he got and when you let that show, to me that takes away from me feeling like you won a round especially vs someone that doesn’t take himself too seriously and is still spitting crazy shit at you. I had Farrell winning that but both rappers were dope.

I saw 40 Barrs’ first round vs Charron which I felt she got very clearly but I didn’t get to see the rest of the battle yet. I’m told she had a choke in the 2nd, and the 3rd wasn’t quite enough for Charron who was going crazy every round. I’m not a massive fan of a lot of Charron battles but he’s undeniably one of the best to do it, so you can’t really fuck up vs him in this day and age without risking getting smoked. No big deal though, because as much as people hate on 40 for choking too often she’s absolutely still one of the GOATs in the culture and what I heard her rap was so well done. Being that recently she smoked First Lady Flamez very clear, I’m not about to feed into the idea that she’s trash or anything. Fuck no!

Marv smoked Geechi, which is to be expected when you go against one of the GOATs in the culture and are so unprepared you freestyle from the first round. Massive fan of both of these gentlemen but yeah, pretty clear one here. Marv has a style that is very unique to him and honestly keeps getting better year by year which is fucking wild considering he’s someone that was on the 8 Mile DVD extras beating Eminem in a battle… he’s been around a long ass time! You should go listen to Marv’s recently released fully self-produced album I’m Fine, Thanks for Asking ASAP!

I saw most of Chilla vs Rex and while I felt like Rex was saying a lot of shit that I’ve heard before, I did really enjoy his rounds overall. Chilla was going crazy in a technical sense and wasn’t necessarily making any mistakes, but it felt like some of what he was saying was still falling flat in the building which is interesting. I think if I rewatch the whole thing I’ll likely have Chilla 2-1, but I can’t really call it from memory right now.

I didn’t get to see Real Deal vs Mike P sadly but some people are saying that was battle of the night! Now let’s get to talking about DAY 2!

Day 2

Bigg K is a very difficult battler to beat at the best of times but that goes double for people that are very well known to the community and have a lot to talk about. He tends to smoke people that are in the public eye just as they’re getting heaps of praise and right now while Tay Roc is a veteran and is often touted as the face of the URL, I think K is going to be too much for him in this type of setting. I got Bigg K 2 - 1 in this one.

Frak is going to absolutely fucking smoke John John Da Don and I don’t see any way in the world that could ever go another way. In the rollout for this event JJDD seems extremely confident that Frak is considered the “jokes” guy and he’s considered the “bars” guy, but Frak has quite literally always had better bars than JJDD and I can’t say that Frak’s the “jokes” guy when if you watch him vs Dizaster, Danny Myers, Brixx, A Ward, Soul Khan and any others I’ve missed he is always very direct towards his opponents, has very complex rhyming patterns, punchlines, schemes, and so on. He’s not really known for just joking at all. Just because someone is funny, that doesn’t mean their approach is just jokes. Perhaps JJDD is bluffing and he’s going to be incredible in this battle, but after seeing him be at best okay in the last several battles he’s had (including in person vs Shotty Horroh) I just don’t see him being the person that’s got Frak figured out when so many people that I consider a lot better at every aspect of battle rap failed to do so. Frak 3 - 0 in this one.

Pass and Twork are two of my favourite rappers of all time both in and outside of battle rap. Both of them always have interesting shit to say and are similarly amazing on beat too, with Twork occasionally shitting the bed in the past by choking or not turning up to events. If this goes how I hope it will, it’ll be a very close match that everyone in the community will be talking about for years to come. I don’t know if it’s a bit of a bias to say Pass 2 - 1 despite me honestly thinking Twork in top form might arguably be the best in the world… but still, Pass 2 - 1 in a close one.

Sikh is going to absolutely smoke Charlie Clips in my opinion because he’s currently on a big tear while Charlie has been on a bit of a decline every battle in my view. Charlie very often relies on his freestyling ability to convince the crowd he’s winning and in many cases (like vs Geechi) I think it’s a bit of a smoke and mirrors thing, because he can be pretty terrible but get a lot of credit because what he said was freestyling. To me in most cases that just makes me very aware that you didn’t write anything good or that you’re choking, especially if the freestyle is just about some shit in the room. Incoming turban bars from him which will make a few people in the crowd laugh and then Sikh will go absolutely bananas and make it very clear, 3 - 0.

Danny Myers vs Elijah Strait is honestly quite an interesting matchup because they’re very similar in style to me. Elijah might come off a bit more like Rum Nitty Jr. sometimes, but still he’s a very aggressive rapper that has a high punch count and so is Danny. I think this battle is going to be a close one but it’ll depend on which rapper has the craziest punches. Elijah is definitely very capable of winning this, but I’m not gonna bet against Danny in this case.. 2 - 1 Danny Myers for this one.

Yoshi vs Cheyraq I can’t really call very easily either because I’ve only seen small amounts of Cheyraq’s content and Yoshi has dropped the ball before. I’ve seen how good Yoshi can be though, so it should be a goodie from her end but I’ll refrain from properly predicting this one.

Cityy Towers recently had a really disappointing performance on iBattleTV which I think he’ll be looking to make up for in this battle and while Emerson Kennedy has gotten better year by year, creating many memorable moments in the last few years in his battles… I just have a feeling that Cityy is going to be at his best in this battle and if that’s the case, he has a much more interesting cadence and higher energy than Emerson and therefore can definitely steal this battle. 2 - 1 Cityy Towers in this one.

Deth the Kid and Clone have been arguing back and forth on Twitter for quite a while now and I think it’s going to be a close one as well but I do kind of prefer Deth’s style to Clone’s style in most of their battles so I’m reluctantly going to predict Deth as the winner. I have seen Deth lose clearer than Clone to people that I’m not sure Clone would lose to in the same way, but that’s all conjecture really based on a few performances here and there. Both are very capable and it should be extremely interesting.

Before I get to telling you to buy the PPV, I also want to give a shout out to Rosenberg Raw and his brother for absolutely killing the commentary part of the PPV. Froze and his brother are absolute naturals at media and commentary and if they don’t get way more jobs doing this type of work from this it can only be because people aren’t paying attention. Really, look at the reaction from the community on social media and you’ll see everyone feels this way. Really great addition to the broadcast and battle rap media in general.

All in all, so far so good for this event. Great job the battlers, staff and everyone involved. Go support!
